Valentinus

T'was the previous night
And all my yesterdays' nights
I may have dreamed of a light
A saint who went on February
T'was legend or unimagined?
But I'm no mere vocabulary

Valentinus was a prayer, Julia was a seeker
To Claudius the king, they were both players
Marriage was a sin, yet the saint bonded lovers
Together they shall be; together you and me
If the world were Claudius', we'll let him discover
If the world were Valentinus', he will have uncovered
Two worlds, two humans, none are undercovers
Like Valentinus; like Julia
We're just you and me

"To prison, you hater, and all your lovely prayers
Against all my 'marry later's, go and meet your jailer!"
Asterius, the jailer, had a daughter who was greater
Than the kingdom of Claudius, though she was younger
Julia was her name; 'where's my father?' since birth
Asterius brought Valentinus in to teach her about earth
And to each other, we've taught the meaning of worth
For you've saved me from dearth; for you are my mirth

O' God and Valentinus have blessed Julia's rebirth
Both her eyes and her mind have expanded in girth
"Can I see what you've taught, Valentinus?
Does God really listen to the prayers of us?"
Thus they prayed; thus we prayed
Just them, just us
That God be the holy healer
Of them, of us

Begone, Julia's blindness!
And bless us with kindness!
For Valentinus. For Julia.
For unending love, hallelujah!
If I were Hamlet, and I were not mad
For the all of our lives, you are my Ophelia
For unbending love, hallelujah!
Pay respects to the best and save us from the bad

Though Asterius and his daughter were soon prayers
Foe Claudius was to execute Valentinus, the sinner
As he was a prayer; as we are both prayers
We pray for salvation, for strength against strayers
And now we're together, and hopefully forever
If the world were Claudius', we'll make him shiver!
For love was what made King Claudius quiver
As Valentinus walked past the stoning men's river
His faith never altered, my love never faltered
For we are but lovers to lovers, not faulters

It is the following night
And all my tomorrows' nights
I will have dreamed of a light
A saint who went on February
His final letter to Julia is my first in our story
His words may be legend but mine is unimagined
As the world awaits us, our love is never questioned
To love family, friends and the greatness of heaven
To love God and to love you, all will never unhappen.

- From your Valentine
